Consuming a banana and flaxseed smoothie is healthy, filling and refreshing. Bananas provide high fiber, potassium, vitamin B6 and mineral rich content. They are also low in sodium. Bananas also help maintain certain health conditions such as heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes, but remember that too much can affect your health, which is why it is important to consult your doctor.

Linseed provide a good source of omega-3 fatty acids. They are also high in fiber and protein. Additionally, flax seeds help keep stools soft to prevent constipation and support healthier bowels.

Milk (in this article I am referring to whole milk) provides a high quality source of protein, calcium and is rich in vitamin D. If using another milk choice, check the nutrition information on the container of each, this will provide also the caloric amount too.

A combination of these three elements in your smoothie makes it a healthy and nutritious addition to your diet as an addition to breakfast, lunch, dinner or snack.

The necessary ingredients are as follows;

2 whole ripe bananas (you can add 1 or 2 more to make it thicker)

1/2 cup whole milk (you can use any milk you like, it’s up to you) Also, you can add more milk if you want it to be thinner.

2 tbsp. Ground Roasted Flaxseeds (Do not use whole flaxseeds as they do not break down during the digestion process and you will not get the nutrient benefits) Do not use the seeds raw as they can cause indigestion , so it’s best to buy them roasted and then grind them in a grinder (usually a coffee grinder will be best.)

2 cups of ice cubes

Use a blender for best results.

Instructions;

1. First add the ice to the blender

2. Then add the peeled bananas, break them in half and place them in the blender

3. Add ground flax seeds

4. Add the milk of your choice last

After adding all the ingredients, blend until smooth, then pour into a drinking vessel of your choice and enjoy.

It’s quick and easy to do. No cooking experience is necessary for a Banana Flaxseed Smoothie. I use a coffee grinder to grind the seeds. If you have any seeds left, place the extra ground seeds in a covered container and place them in the refrigerator to keep them fresh until next time.
