Grange will host a soup and seeds event, a pancake breakfast | Food and drink

The Hillstown Barn will have its homemade soup and garden seed distribution event today, February 3, from 6-7:30 p.m.

There will be a take-out dinner of homemade soups for $5. The snow date is February 10.

Hillstown Grange is also inviting gardeners to the Farm Committee’s free seed distribution and announcement of this year’s gardening competitions for the September 10 Farm Fair.

There will be 300 packets of seeds to choose from with a limit of 12 packets per person. This is a great opportunity to try something new in the garden. The seeds have been donated, so there will be no charge during their lifetime.

• The Hillstown Grange will host a pancake breakfast on Saturday, February 5, from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the barn room, 617 Hills St., East Hartford.

The menu is pancakes, sausages, coffee, tea and juice. The February specials are blueberry pancakes with a hot blueberry sauce and a new flavor, lemon.

Cost is $5, $3 for children 14 and under.

The barn library has space to read, play games or visit friends. The books are available for donation to the building fund.

Hillstown Grange is located at 617 Hills St., East Hartford, in the Hillstown corner of East Hartford, Glastonbury and Manchester.

First Town Downtown will host a Taste of Windsor online auction from Sunday February 6 to February 13, followed by a Windsor Restaurant Week from Monday February 14 to Friday February 18.

The public is encouraged to bid on auction items and order at select restaurants during Restaurant Week in support of First Town Downtown’s mission to provide free events in downtown Windsor.

The program for the restaurant week is:

February 15: Bart’s Drive In and Chili’s Bar & Grill

February 16: Union Street Tavern

February 17: The Beanery at Bart’s and Windsor Steak and Seafood.

February 18: Dom’s Broad St Eatery and Family Pizzeria.

Order at any of these restaurants on these dates and a portion of the proceeds will go to First Town Downtown.

The Andover Congregational Church, 359 Route 6 in Andover, will be holding its 30th annual soup grinder sale on Sunday, February 6.

The selection is Gil’s Famous Chili, in quarts and pints; ham, turkey or tuna grinder; garden salad; fries; and a soda.

Pick-up will take place on Sunday between noon and 1 p.m. Grinders must be ordered in advance.

The Manchester Area Conference of Churches is tackling hunger one bowl of soup at a time.

On Saturday, February 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., MACC Charities will be hosting a Drive-In Souperbowl Sale.

MACC chef Ferdinand Cruz will create two soups: Pasta e fagioli and turkey taco. The cost is $15 or $20 for 32 ounces.

Pre-orders with cash or check payment will be accepted.

Somers Congregational Church, 599 Main Street, will be hosting an “Anything Chocolate” Bake Sale on Saturday, February 12, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Bars, breads, cakes, candies, cookies and pies will be decorated for this special Valentine’s Day.

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 104 W. Main St., Stafford Springs, will be hosting a Valentine’s Day take-out dinner on Sunday, February 13, with curbside pickup from 5-6 p.m.

The menu includes roast pork loin with cherry balsamic glaze, rosemary red potatoes, green beans and red velvet chocolate cake

The cost is $15 for an individual dinner; $25 for a small family meal (two to three people); and $50 for a large family meal (four to six people).

The Second Congregational Church, 1746 Boston Turnpike in Coventry, will host a drive-in/takeout dinner on Saturday, February 19.

The menu includes pot roast, mashed potatoes, carrots, gravy, bread and dessert.

The cost is $14 for adults, $7 for children.
